ChromaX is especially relevant to cinemas where the treatment should disappear behind a refined architectural surface.

We treat manufacturer products as tools within an acoustic design rather than as a starting point. The room requirements determine the function, location, depth and quantity of treatment before a product family is selected.

THE COMPANY

Portuguese acoustic engineering shaped as an interior-design product.

Artnovion is a Portuguese architectural-acoustics manufacturer led by founder Jorge Castro. The company describes its mission as combining acoustic performance, engineering and visual design rather than treating technical panels as objects that must be hidden.

Its portfolio extends across music production, residential listening rooms, home cinemas, hospitality, offices and public interiors. This breadth is relevant to private cinema because the room must satisfy both a measured acoustic brief and a demanding architectural finish.

Artnovion has also developed installation and material systems around the panels themselves. The FixArt Tube mounting system, for example, is intended to simplify accurate wall, ceiling and corner installation while allowing panels to be repositioned or upgraded.

DESIGN LANGUAGE

Performance devices that can remain visible—or disappear.

The useful distinction is not the brand name; it is the acoustic function selected for each part of the room.

01Absorption

Broadband and frequency-shaped absorbers control reflections and decay while offering timber, fabric and sculpted finishes.

02Diffusion

Geometric and sequence-based surfaces redistribute energy where spatial support is preferable to additional absorption.

03Bass control

Dedicated low-frequency devices address pressure-related problems that thin decorative panels cannot solve.

04ChromaX

A continuous stretched-fabric cinema system combines aluminium profiles with absorptive, diffusive and tuned bass-control modules behind one finish.

CHROMAX FOR CINEMA

A fabric wall becomes an acoustic platform, not just a covering.

Artnovion presents ChromaX as a modular cinema system rather than a generic empty fabric cavity. Current configurations combine calibrated-cell absorption, QRD-based diffusion and dual-cavity diaphragmatic bass control. The bass modules are published for targeted activity in the 80–120 Hz region.

For a private cinema, this can support a clean visual plane while allowing treatment function to vary behind it. The room still needs modelling or measurement: module positions and quantities should follow the speakers, seats, boundaries and decay targets.

Availability

Artnovion is included as an international design and product reference. Regional representation, lead time, finishes, technical data and landed cost should be confirmed before it becomes a South African project specification.

WHY THIS BRAND MATTERS

Acoustic engineering that is comfortable being seen.

Artnovion approaches room treatment as both an engineering discipline and an interior product. Its catalogue spans absorbers, diffusers, bass-control devices and fixing systems in fabric, timber and sculpted finishes. That breadth is useful when a cinema should feel designed rather than assembled from unrelated panels.

The most important lesson is still functional: a beautiful surface is not automatically the correct treatment. We first decide where energy should be absorbed, redistributed or controlled at low frequencies, then choose an Artnovion device capable of doing that job.

SIGNATURE SOLUTIONS

What is genuinely distinctive

Selected product families are highlighted for their relevance to private cinema—not as a shopping list.

01

ChromaX

A cinema-specific stretched-fabric platform that can conceal different absorptive, diffusive and tuned bass modules behind one continuous architectural finish.

02

Siena

A slatted timber absorber that combines a high-performance core with a visually ordered wooden face—useful where treatment should remain visible.

03

Avalon Broad

A broad-band fabric absorber for reflection and decay control where a quieter visual language is appropriate.

04

FixArt Tube

A clip-on mounting system for walls, ceilings and corners that creates a useful air cavity and allows panels to be repositioned.

How we would use Artnovion

ChromaX is the standout cinema proposition: it lets us vary acoustic function behind one finish. Visible Siena or sculptural elements can then be used selectively where the interior benefits from texture rather than total concealment.

The governing principle: measurement, modelling and room requirements choose the treatment. The logo never does.
